When you think of Ipswich Town you think of John Wark.

“He was an extraordinary player”

Sir Bobby Robson

It is now just over 50 years ago that John Wark made his Ipswich Town first team debut. And it is almost 30 years since he played his final match. However, supporters fortunate to have witnessed him in action still talk with misty eyed affection about the man who wrote the records.

Through a combination of his outstanding achievements and incredible longevity, it could be argued that the subject of this book played his part in bringing more honour and success to the Blues than any other individual player in the club’s rich history.

John Wark’s incredible football story is all brought to life in this high-quality, hardback book consisting of 240 full colour pages packed with evocative images celebrating this Ipswich Town icon.

“I sometimes think the fans think of me as two completely different players. First there was the goalscoring midfielder from the 1970s and early 1980s and then the veteran defender in the 1990s.”

“When I tell people in Holland about my time in England, and how I played with a defensive midfield player who scored 36 goals in a season, they start to laugh. They just don’t believe me.”

Remembering all
the big matches

From Arsenal to Aris Salonika. John Wark was right at the centre of so many of Ipswich Town’s most famous matches from the 1970s through to the 90s.

In a Warky Wonderland

On the pitch Warky rubbed shoulders with the biggest names in world football, and he was in the running for the game’s most prestigious individual accolades too.

Life off the pitch, has been almost as exciting. He appeared in a Hollywood film, Escape To Victory alongside A-list actors and the most famous footballer of all time. John also turned up on Top of The Pops performing in front of millions. And not forgetting his contribution to Sky Sports memorable advert promoting the start of their Premier League coverage – proving he too was still ‘alive and kicking’ at the veteran stage of his career.

Plus, you will find all of the stats from John’s 19 seasons of first team action at Portman Road as well.
